Restored piece

French Empire Candlesticks

Large pair of Empire candlesticks in gilded and patinated bronze, attributed to Claude Galle (1758-1815), Paris around 1805. Height: 37 cm, diameter: 15 cm. This unusual pair of candlesticks, with three eagles standing back to back, recalls the two pairs of candlesticks delivered by the bronzier Claude Galle in 1804 for Fontainebleau Palace. Interestingly, this same circular sole also appears on another pair of candlesticks supplied by Galle in 1805 also for Fontainebleau. Claude Galle was one of the most eminent bronziers of the Empire period and he received countless commisions from the Garde-Meuble and is known to have supplied aristocrats and nobility members.
